If you're a regular visitor here, you know I do this for me and no one else. I update when I'm compelled to do so. This is more of a desired distraction from my everyday, than anything else. Occassionally, Vox can be a creative outlet for me, when I want the verbosity in my head to be translated here. (Crushspeak is a complex and often misunderstood language.....)
Anyway, I'm not really sure where I was going with that, as I'm still brushing away the cobwebs of a rum fueled trip to the Caribbean. I guess my point was that I wanted to update the handful of you that I keep up with since I've been away. Here's a brief synopsis; perhaps I'll share some details, once I get back into the work groove:
* I twisted my ankle while running, two nights before my recent trip. I resigned myself not to let it interfere with any of my planned activities, which included snorkeling, golfing, deep sea fishing, etc. It didn't interfere, and now I'm paying the price. I'm headed for xrays either later today or tomorrow since I couldn't fit into any of my office shoes today. My high tolerance for pain may have backfired in this case. I'm not in great pain, but my ankle is quite swollen and there are various, yet-to-be-named hues of blue from the ankle to my instep and arch. Not good. My ankle is not nearly as bad as the one pictured, but you get the idea.....
* This was our eighth annual "Brown shoe" reunion. (Navy jargon reserved for Naval Aviators, since the rest and majority of the Navy wears black shoes.) We spent the first six years in Vegas and the last two in the Caribbean. Its likely that our ninth will be back in Vegas once again. When "Tailhook" became a public relations nightmare for the Navy (and deservedly so), we decided to make our own fun in Vegas once a year, independently sanctioned by......well, no one but ourselves. For the last eight years, it has been a mix of as few as 3, and as many as 8 of us meeting up once a year to talk about our glory days and be stupid and irresponsible for a handful of days. Most of this core group lead lives full of responsibility and accountability, so its a good decompress for all of us. This year, there were four of us. Through the years, we've been in various stages of relationship status. It runs the gamut: married, single, divorced, single but committed, shacked up, etc etc. Its always a topic of conversation (read: drunk ranting), and a good open forum/community for those in our group with relationship issues.
* I ran through Customs on my return to get to the Police concert at Dolphin stadium in Miami. Straight from the airport into an hour of concert traffic and a 50 minute line at the mini mart..... FOR THE FREAKIN' ATM !!!! WTF people? Granted, I was in that line right next to you, but come on! Are you effing kidding me? The only reason I didn't have enough cash to pay for the $30 parking (fuckers) is because I just got back from a foreign country where they don't use US currency. Your excuse, pray tell? And, I'll also give you that we now live in a largely cashless society, but....could you not have stopped at the ATM the day before? Or, maybe earlier in that day? Your lunchbreak? How about the ATM near your house before your concert commute, knowing there is only the one Quickie Mart ATM within two miles of Dolphin Stadium???? And then, no less than 3 people, upon entering the store, ask me if I am in line for the ATM.....IN SPANISH! Not a single person addressed me in English. Dude, South Florida is still America (I think.) .....power to your people and all that crap. God bless you and your family, but again.....WTF???? Don't assume I speak Spanish, comprende??? This is my country too and my ancestors immigrated just like yours did. But, mine also learned the language of their new home--a bastion of democracy and freedom, full of human rights not previously afforded them. They learned the language with pride and not with resentment. This would be so much easier if you would just be willing to do the same.....
Anyway, this turned into a rant that I didn't have the time or strength to see through. The Police show was phenomenal, surpassed only by the company of a beautiful and charming woman! (wink) Details when the swelling goes down. (oh, and when my ankle feels better too.....) hehheh :)
